Online Creative Writing Programme (Ages 12-14) – April-June 25

April 23, 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm

₹17,000

Registrations are now open for the summer 2025 edition of my intensive online creative writing programme for ages 12 to 14!

My writing courses are conducted just twice a year – from April to June and from October to December. Each course is 12 weeks long. It comprises twelve online interactions and access to a private, secure forum, where participants share work and read one another’s work. I provide feedback each time a participant submits something on the forum, and I encourage the children to rewrite and edit until their work reaches its best potential. In this sense, it is an intensive programme that requires participants to log in multiple times a week, write regularly and share relevant ideas and opinions on the forum.

Please note that this also means that the participants who sign up are interested in writing and committed to improving their craft! It is not for those who want lessons in grammar or spelling!

At my writing programme, if I have a minimum of four participants for each batch, I also organise up to three guest sessions, which are open to non-participants on payment of a registration fee, but free for those who are part of my writing programmes. Take a look at the three guest sessions I organised during the previous edition of the creative writing programme:

Outline

In the past, we’ve worked with poetry, drama, memes, nonfiction and stories. During the April 2022 edition, we created an e-magazine (WORDS) for the first time, and it was such a rewarding experience that it has become a regular feature of my writing programmes. You can read (or download) all the previous issues!

As you will see, we have a range of poems, stories, plays, memes, puzzles, and more!

While the details of my writing programmes for ages 9-11 and ages 12-14 differ, the overall structure is the same. In this way, the content of the e-magazine has similar overarching themes.

To create the July 2025 issue of WORDS, here are a few things we will work on.

  • Poetry – We always begin with poetry because it’s almost like a warm-up exercise. It prepares us for the longer, more challenging writing that follows. This is not to say that poetry is not challenging; it is! However, because it is typically briefer, it feels more accessible. We will work with unique poetic forms that the participants may not have heard of before, as well as more conventional rhyming verse.
  • Drama – We love writing plays at my writing programmes! This time, I hope to introduce the filmmaking angle too, through a guest session I have in mind. We’ll work on dialogue and setting, creating tightly woven theatre scripts.
  • Stories – How can we write in second person? What genres can we experiment with? As we work on technique and style, we will read a few stories and engage in writing exercises to improve our craft.
