₹15,000

THIS BATCH IS SOLD OUT!

It is likely that the next writing programme for ages 15 to 17 will be held in October 2024. Join my mailing list if you would like to receive email notifications about my programmes. Alternatively, follow me on social media – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – for regular updates.

For the first time, I’m conducting a writing course for ages 15 to 17! Several parents (and young adults) have been asking me to start a batch for serious young writers, and I’ve finally got around to designing a course for this age-group.

Like my other writing programmes, this one will be 12 weeks long. It comprises twelve online interactions and access to a private, secure forum, where participants share work and read one another’s work. I provide feedback each time a participant submits something on the forum, and I encourage the children to rewrite and edit until their work reaches its best potential. In this sense, it is an intensive programme that requires participants to log in multiple times a week, write regularly and share relevant ideas and opinions on the forum.

While my guest sessions are typically for ages nine to 14, all those who sign up for this programme will also have access to these sessions should they wish to attend. These one-hour workshops are open to non-participants on payment of a registration fee, but free for those who are part of my writing programmes. Take a look at the three guest sessions I organised during the previous edition of the creative writing programme:

Outline

At my writing programmes, we’ve worked with poetry, drama, nonfiction and stories. During the April 2022 edition, we created an e-magazine (WORDS) for the first time, and it was such a rewarding experience that it has become a regular feature of my writing programmes. You can download all the previous issues!

As you will see, we have a range of poems, stories, plays, memes, puzzles, and more!

To create the July 2024 issue of WORDS, here are a few things we will work on.

  • Poetry – Yes, we always begin with poetry. Poetry lets writers begin gently without the pressure of completing a long, complex work that would typically require more of a time commitment. (Read about why I love teaching poetry!) During the first three weeks of the April 2024 edition of my writing programme, we’ll explore a few more forms of poetry–both familiar and unfamiliar. We’ll work with free verse as well as structured forms of writing.
  • Drama – It’s been over a year since I taught a drama module at my writing programme, so it’s time to come back to it and explore it some more. Theatre-related activities are always fun, and activities will lead the way as we explore speeches, dialogue and more.
  • Publishing and query letters – For ages 15 to 17, I will also conduct a session on crafting a query letter and the process of publishing, as several teens are committed to writing longer manuscripts that they wish to publish.
  • Stories – Often, what I plan for the fiction module is quite different from what I end up doing because I love to focus on what interests the participants in any given batch. This time, I’m keen on exploring our relationship with AI in multiple ways–perhaps both through poetry and through stories. What do we imagine is the future of AI? How can we write science fiction based on what we know now?
