Online Creative Writing Programme (Ages 9-11) – April 23

This event is sold out, but I received such an overwhelming response that I’m launching another batch of the same programme. Join right away; seats are filling up rapidly!
These writing courses are conducted just twice a year – in April and in October. Each one is 12 weeks long and comprises twelve online interactions and access to a private, secure forum, where participants share work and provide feedback to one another. I provide feedback each time a participant submits something on the forum, and I encourage the children to rewrite and edit until their work reaches its best potential. In this sense, it is an intensive programme that requires participants to log in multiple times a week, write regularly and share relevant ideas and opinions on the forum.
If I have a minimum of four participants for each batch, I also organise up to three guest sessions, which are open to non-participants on payment of a registration fee, but free for those who are part of my writing programmes. In the past, we’ve worked with poetry, drama, nonfiction and stories in the past. During the April 2022 edition, we created an e-zine for the first time, and it was such a rewarding experience that it will be a regular feature of my writing programmes henceforth. Take a look at the first issue here and the second one here.
To create the third issue of our e-zine, here are a few things we will work on.
- Poetry – I love working on poetry at my writing programmes (take a look at this to learn why). The participants wrote several excellent poems during the last edition! Here’s just one example:
This time, we’ll work on more experimental poetry, like shape poetry, list poems and rebuses. - Nonfiction – What do we feel strongly about? In issue 1 of WORDS, we wrote speeches on the subject This, I believe. This time, we’ll work on debates, amusing letters and more.
- Stories – How many of us have drawers full of incomplete stories? During the fiction module, we’ll look at plotting, write mystery stories, and attempt to find our own unique voices.
