I’ve been fascinated by spine poetry for a while. When I saw the brilliant one about Corona that’s been doing the rounds for a while, I found myself thinking about creating my own. It was not a new thought–I’ve been thinking about it for a while, but for ever so long, I was just too lazy.
A couple of weeks ago, I shed the laziness and began. Like all kinds of writing, I liked some poems more than others. Some of the poems were so unappealing after a couple of days, that I didn’t even bother to share them. But for the rest, over the last nine days, I have been sharing a poem a day on my social media handles.
Here they are, all together. Which one(s) do you like most?
Edited to add: I deleted one! I don’t like it anymore.
If sweetness is something you look for in poetry …
Once Upon a More Enlightened Time At the Back of the North Wind In An Antique Land A Song Begins
Here is a slightly dark one.
Night-Time is My Time I, Lucifer Incognito Knock Down The Innocent Man
This one was just fun. I saw the first and third books lying together, and I could not resist!
Great Detective Stories What No Cheese! Who Flung Dung?
A naughty poem that I enjoyed because it was so simple. The two books just went together!
Between You and Me A Most Improper Magick
This poem below is slightly different from the version I shared on social media. Writing of all kinds always requires so much editing! I would take the last book away from the pile now.
Summer Moonshine Stars of Fortune The Enchanted Castle Rainbow Valley Lost for Words
The poem below is the version I shared on Facebook, not the one I shared on Instagram. I think this edition works better!
The Lilliputians Fly by Night When Morning Comes The Misfits Dance
This one was on a topic that is close to my heart – the environment. Perhaps I am cheating a bit here because two of the books in the poem do deal with the theme.
The Vanishing Path of Beasts White Dolphin Dragonfly The Butterfly Lion The Last Tiger Paradise End Stop!
And the last one, which I like for its wistfulness.
