Description
For several years, parents have been asking me to conduct a book club for older children, and I haven’t had the bandwidth to launch one … until now! This is the first edition of ‘Deep Read’, designed for ages 11 and 12.
‘Deep Read’ is an online book club for ages 11 and 12. It is a deep dive into book critiquing, as we explore themes and layering, and venture into creative writing.
Details:
- We will be working with A Girl, a Tiger and a Very Strange Story by Paro Anand and Priya Kuriyan. Do note that reading happens independently. Before the third class, I expect the children to have read the entire book.
- There will be four classes in all. Each class is 45 minutes long.
- During each class, we will focus on an excerpt or two, engage with it, critique it, and write something inspired by it.
- The purpose of ‘Deep Read’ is not to read aloud together. Rather, it is to critique the book in greater detail, explore its themes, and have informed discussions.
