Description
The winter 2026 edition of my intensive 10-week creative writing programme is here!
Do note that this programme is targeted only at children who enjoy writing and do not find it a burden! The idea is to nurture their love for writing and requires a high level of commitment.
In the past, we’ve worked with poetry, drama, nonfiction and stories. During the April 2022 edition, we created an e-magazine (WORDS) for the first time, and it was such a rewarding experience that it immediately became a regular feature of my writing programmes. Take a look at the first issue here, and the latest one (issue 9!) here.
To create the January 2027 issue of WORDS, here are a few things we will work on. Do note that the content of both my writing programmes (the one for ages 9 to 11 and the one for ages 12 to 14) is more or less the same. The mentor texts I use and the methodology I follow differ now and then to accommodate the difference in levels.
- Poetry – I love working on poetry at my writing programmes (take a look at this to learn why). During the last edition, we worked on kennings, rhymes, and puzzle poetry. This time, we’ll work on other kinds of poetry, both familiar and less familiar, like couplets, fibs, free verse and more!
- Nonfiction – Typically, we work on drama in the summer and nonfiction in the winter, just so that participants can sample both. This time, we’ll work on speeches, letters, and journaling.
- Stories – Everyone loves a good story. While we’ve worked on several genres of writing in the past, in the age of AI, what we need to focus on is the “how” of writing, rather than what we write. This time, we’ll dive deep into opening lines, dialogue, and the age-old technique of “See, think, wonder”.
